The March of the Adjectives

We were taught never to use adjectives
because they are like sloths –
why put in detail what could be expressed easily?

They are words that provide
for instant gratification.
A quickie where the phrase and the emotion
exchange thoughts
and bear forth a child –
a child with no name, no meaning. A runaway.

We live in a world where adjectives
are the best means of praise.

But I choose to think otherwise.
Let us write down our love, in all its details
and damages. Our parley without describing
but instead likening it to an event, a person or a place.

Show me, don’t tell me
for what it’s worth.
